Case 2

Detention Day 2

The next day, members of a "Know Your Rights" organization give a virtual presentation. They tell you that they may be able to help advocate for your rights as a detainee, connect you to a lawyer, and help you seek asylum. But, they warn you that not everyone will be represented.

One of the "Customs and Border Patrol" officers, as you learn they are called, tells you that because you crossed illegally, you will most likely be deported anyways with a ban to entering the U.S. for the next five years.

One of the other migrants tells you that in El Paso, almost every asylum case gets denied. But, she says that if you can find a sponsor, then you can leave detention to go to another city in the U.S. where you will have a better chance of winning. That's what she's going to do, her sister lives in a place called Providence, Rhode Island.

What do you do?
