Case 2
Work
You decide to try and work, with the intention to save up enough to get out of detention and fight your case for asylum in another part of the country. Your bunk-mate tells you that their cousin's friend might be able to sponsor you if you can figure out how to get to Michigan, giving you a torn off piece of paper with his phone number written on it.
At $1/day, you figure you'll have to save up for about a year to be able ot leave this place. That's another full year that your wife and daughters back home will go without food.
At the main intake office, next to the cage they held you in when you arrived, you sign a volunteer to work form. The CBP officers assign you to the laundry room, and tell you that you'll be paid $1 at the end of each day for your service. And, they tell you that you can be fired from your position for not performing your job as expected.
Your first day of work passes quickly, laundry isn't so bad. The next day, during your lunch break, you decide to use your $1 to make a phone call.
What do you do?
