Case 3

911

You feel your lips go dry and your head spinning while your friend calls 9-1-1. The person who picks up the phone does not speak Spanish, but your friend manages to tell them the location of the emergency.

Within a few minutes, an ambulance and two police cars arrive at the entrance to the Backstretch of the Racetrack -- yards away from the cafeteria. A police officer in a black uniform approaches you. You feel your heart start to beat more quickly. He reminds you of the scary ICE agents who you dealt with years ago.

You worry if you speak Spanish to them that they might treat you differently. But you're nervous that your English may sound foreign, too.

What do you do?
