Case 3

Undocumented

Through the interpreter, you tell the doctor that you are undocumented, but ask him not to tell anyone. You are in the process of getting legal status, you say, and tell him that your boss from work is helping you.

He nods, and then leaves the room.

A few moments later, the same police officers who drove you to the hospital enter your room along with the doctor. The interpreter relays to you that though you will be receiving acute care here, you will have to be detained once you are discharged. It's a new legislative policy, the doctor explains, he could lose his license if he doesn't report you.

Later that night, while you are alone in your room, you think about escaping from the hospital.

What do you do?
