Seeking Asylum Separately

Your husband calls you and tells you that he's made it with the coyote to the United States. They traveled to Kansas, where he has settled into a run-down apartment, will wait for you there. You tell him that you have just reached Juarez, and that you cannot wait to join him soon.

However, when you go to the port of entry to seek asylum, the ICE officials tell you that there is a new policy in place called the Migrant Protection Program (MPP). Because you are seeking asylum from Honduras, and not Mexico, you must wait on the Mexican side of the border for your court date to be processed. You don't know anybody in Juarez, and have no place to stay.
