Case 2

Help!

After sometime, a Spanish-speaking doctor comes in to take care of you. She tells you that you're not the only person with a work-related injury like this that she's seen. She asks you what exactly happened, telling you that she wants to help advocate for your safety before discharging you from the hospital.

You explain that you've been experiencing episodes of severe anxiety where it feels like your heart is going to fall out of your chest. You tell her that you feel sad and so incredibly lonely all the time. You tell her that if it weren't for your daughters, you'd consider taking your own life. And you tell her that your sponsor has you working incredibly long shifts with the hope of being able to send money home to your family.

The healthcare provider tells you that they can keep you in the hospital for a few days, and that they can help get a social worker involved to find you a safer place to work and live. She encourages you to visit a Primary Care Physician for long-term mental healthcare, too.
